Initial situation and requirements
As part of the Athene project, Rudolf Hörmann GmbH & Co. KG is building a modern wood cluster in Buchloe. The site will feature a glulam plant, a high-capacity sawmill, and a sustainable energy supply system comprising a photovoltaic system, battery storage, and a biomass cogeneration plant.
The structural framework of the approximately 34,000 m² production hall consists of more than 80 precast columns, each weighing up to 50 metric tons. In addition, there are large-format wall and fire-resistant wall panels that had to be safely transported, installed, and permanently joined together.
To ensure rapid construction progress, solutions were needed that could reliably support heavy loads while also enabling practical installation procedures. This was particularly true for the structurally load-bearing connections between columns and wall panels, as well as for the installation of fire wall assemblies.
Our solution and implementation
- Use of Various PHILIPP Transport Anchor Systems
- Design of columns and wall slabs with heavy structural members
- Installation of several kilometers of Power Duo cable-loop rails
- Practical, optimized connection of columns, wall panels, and fire-resistant wall panels
Transport anchor systems were planned and implemented specifically for this project to facilitate the transport and installation of the large-format precast concrete elements. These systems enable the safe slinging and erection of columns weighing up to 50 metric tons, as well as numerous wall panels. The solutions, which are designed to match the specific geometries and loads of the components, support a controlled and efficient installation process on the construction site.
Many kilometers of Power Duo cable-loop rails were used for the structurally load-bearing connections of the precast concrete components. The Power Duo system enables quick and reliable connection of the components and, in particular, simplifies the installation of large-format firewall panels. This allows the individual elements to be efficiently positioned and connected without unnecessarily delaying the construction process due to complex connection solutions.
The engineering offices Mühlberg + Mair in Buchloe performed the structural calculations for this challenging construction project. The construction company Glass GmbH in Mindelheim handled the technical design of the precast concrete structure and the delivery of the concrete elements.

More than 80 precast columns, each weighing up to 50 metric tons, form the structural framework of the approximately 34,000 m² production hall.

PHILIPP’s Power Duo rope loops enable a load-bearing and easy-to-install connection for large-format wall and fire-rated wall panels.
