Initial situation and requirements

A transport anchoring solution was needed to install two concrete hands for Europe’s largest Mary statue, standing 55.6 meters tall, in Konotopie, Poland.

The two hands of the concrete statue of the Virgin Mary had to be lifted into precise alignment and fitted perfectly during installation.

The complex geometry of the hands required an anchor location that is symmetrical to the center of gravity and, at the same time, provides sufficient component depth for anchoring.

Our solution and implementation

PHILIPP developed a precisely tailored transport anchor solution for the installation of the two concrete hands. The anchor layout was determined using newly developed software to precisely calculate the position of the anchors, the forces involved, and the required suspension lengths.

Since the concrete hands had to be held in a specific position during the lifting process, a GANTERUD L12 PRO load-balancing device was used. Additional chain hoists allowed for fine adjustments at the two smaller anchor points. This made it possible to lift the components in a controlled manner, align them, and mount them precisely onto the statue’s arm.

Lifty RD units in various sizes were used as the standard load-bearing devices for the anchor systems in the concrete walls.

The statue of the Virgin Mary in Konotopie, Poland, stands 55.6 meters tall, making it the largest Marian monument in Europe.

Using newly developed software from PHILIPP, the position of all transport anchors was calculated with precision.

Tolerances in the anchor installation were compensated for during lifting by using additional chain hoists on the anchors.

The GANTERUD Balancer allows for precise lifting and placement of the precast concrete component into the statue.
